Life Lessons

Lately, Your Zen student/Nerd (me) been taking life lessons from Lost:

  • One persons Heaven is another person's Hell.
  • Everyone thinks they're doing the 'right' thing or what is necessary to survive.
  • It's not as simple as "black & white" who the 'good' people or 'bad' people are. (Widmore & Ben)
  • When you stop living in the present & keep trying to be someplace you aren't, people (usually yourself) end up getting hurt. Jack is an example of this. Even when he got what he wanted (rescued), he still wanted something else (to go back).
  • Those who believe that the Island is 'bad' seem to get harmed/ill in some way. Those who accept the Island as giving & loving are blessed by it.
  • You shouldn't sit around and wait for someone to rescue you if you think you're lost. Being rescued may not be the "good" thing it appears to be and usually leads to another set of problems.
  • Locke followed his own path & it led him to becoming enlightened. He is able to see & hear things others can not.
  • Metaphysical signs show themselves all the time. Some don't notice them. Some listen to them and they drive others 'crazy' (Hurley).
  • The "others" represent all people that aren't "us". We (the human race) tend to fear and mistrust other people who appear to be different from us for any reason. There are the "others" and the "other others".

Basically, I think the premise of LOST is simply just to show how people in general are just LOST in their own lives...
